From the marathon website:
"Each fluid station will provide water and Gatorade original lemon-lime flavor along the course. Gu energy gels will be available at miles 8.9, 11.8, 17.1 and 20.1; PowerBars will be available at miles 14.6 and 21.5; and pretzels will be available at miles 23.8 and mile 25."
Fluids plus Gu at miles 9 and 17 should be good enough, right?
you guys should wear water belts just to be sure

I would think that we'd take them more frequently than that. I don't know what's recommended performance-wise, but I was pretty wiped at the end of the last marathon I ran and I only took one Gu. I'm planning on taking many more this time.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll probably take all of the Gu packets. I don't know if I want to actively chew a Powerbar or a pretzel, but provided you don't get a stitches easily I'm totally in favor of taking in as many calories as possible during a marathon.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm just pointing out that we probably won't need to bring anything. I've practiced with Snickers bars, Gu, bananas, and Powerbars around the halfway point for my long-longs--not much more than that.
ReplyDeleteAs for the fuel belt...if you can't beat Ball State...
Gotcha. I definitely agree with that. Two years ago there were no official food stops so I was going to have Carrie give us stuff at various points, but when I saw how much stuff they were going to have this time, I nixed that idea.
